Free Book: Homeschooling and Loving It (Shipping Fee)

Hello! This is Rebecca Kochenderfer from Homeschool.com. For some reason, the following was stripped out of the original email I sent you. Perhaps because I used the word “free” in the subject line. Maybe the spam filters deleted the content, thinking it was dangerous. Here is the information you need.

Laurel Springs School is giving away FREE copies of "Homeschooling and Loving It." Normally, this popular book sells for $15.95.

Here's the Coupon Code: LSS
Go To: http://store.laurelsprings.com/
Limit 5 copies per person. While supplies last.

Be sure to watch the short video on the ordering page, telling all about the book. I used the "Homeschooling & Loving It" method with my own children and my son has just gone off to the college of his choice. It works. I don't know how long the copies will last so be sure to get your copy right away.

I'm so grateful to Laurel Springs for making this book available to all homeschoolers. The founder of Laurel Springs, Marilyn Mosley, used this method of homeschooling with her children. Homeschooling is so much richer when you ask your children, "What are your goals?" "What do you want to learn about?" and then build your curriculum from there.

As always, I wish you the best on your homeschooling adventure. Feel free to pass the coupon code on to other homeschoolers. And let me know if I can ever be of assistance to you with your homeschooling.

Warm regards,
Rebecca Kochenderfer

Cocoa Cabana Field Trip

Hello,

My name is Ronda Priola and I am an advocate of homeschooling. I homeschooled my son and daughter. My son just earned his degree and my daughter is about to enter nurses training.

My reason for writing is that I own a hand-dipped chocolate store in West Dundee and we offer field trips for homeschoolers. The field trip includes a video about chocolate, its history and how it is grown and produced, and a tour of our kitchen with a candy making demonstration. The children finish their tour by making their own chocolate pizza. The cost is $6 per child. Ages 5 and up are welcome. Maximum group size is 20.

If you are interested and/or would like more information, please contact me.

Charlotte Mason Education

HI! I’m Sue Pruett, and I have been teaching my children with the gentle ways of Charlotte Mason for 9 years. I continue to study and learn of her ways, and constantly improve my methods. I love this way of educating my children, and I desire to show others how gentle and natural this way is! I am available to speak at groups or conventions – large or small – on a Charlotte Mason Education.

I have 5 children, and so I can also add the perspective of a Mom of Many to my mix. How do you achieve a good education for your school aged children, while not neglecting your pre-schoolers? I can help answer that question!

Talk topics I can deliver:
• An Introduction to a Charlotte Mason Education
• Living books – how to pick them, how to obtain them, how to use them.
• Nature Study – Yes you CAN do it!
• Scheduling and a Charlotte Mason Education – can it work?
• You CAN start with a Charlotte Mason education Monday!(Or Tomorrow!)
• It IS Possible to Teach ALL Your Children Well!

I have been speaking for over 5 years at local homeschool support group meetings, encouraging moms in their homeschool journey. I have a burden to see families not just survive, but thrive as they teach their children at home. Let me come and encourage your families as I introduce them to the Charlotte Mason method of education!

You can follow my adventures with a CM Education on my blog at www.thecharlottemasongirl.com – where you will see how I am implementing a CM education in my own home with my own children.

My husband and I own Ancient Paths Christian Bookstore, and we have been involved in supplying families with great books since 2005. We love to be a part of helping families disciple their children well, and we desire to continue doing so for many years to come. In making myself available for speaking opportunities, we are furthering our mission of helping families disciple their children well.

To learn just how easy it is to have me come to your group or conference, please contact me in your favorite way:

Cross County Junction
1:00 pm

What could be better than viewing more than 400 species of animals while strolling through 216 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds at Brookfield Zoo? Doing all that plus listening to a FREE* summer concert! This summer, people of all ages will be delighted with the lineup of entertainers scheduled to perform for this year’s annual Zoo Tunes.

Cross County Junction
Not your typical country band, locally based Cross County Junction brings together a different mix to create a combination that will gather together a new audience of music fans. The bands solid rhythm section and dynamic trio of harmonies come together to combine into one explosive performance that will have the audience cheering for more.

Darryl Worley
Multi-platinum country music star Darryl Worley has made an undeniable impression on the music industry and is sure to add some new fans and meet some old ones when he takes the stage at Brookfield Zoo’s Zoo Tunes. Zoogoers will be entertained with his from-the-heart songs, soulful vocals, and American pride during an energetic concert. From his wistful romantic “I Miss My Friend” to the defiant anthem “Have You Forgotten?,” both of which topped the singles charts, his repertoire of songs will include something for everyone.

Josh Gracin
Country music fans are going to want to mark their calendars for Brookfield Zoo’s Zoo Tunes in August when country artist Josh Gracin brings his energetic stage performance to the zoo’s East Mall. From the high-speed, fun-filled romp of “Favorite State of Mind” and the rowdy cut of “All About Y’all” to the tender words of “Sweet September,” Gracin music is sure to get the audience up on their feet dancin’. Gracin first entered America’s homes as one of the most charismatic and distinctive performers in the second season of American Idol, the first to bring country music to the pop-oriented hit show.

*All concerts are free with general zoo admission or zoo membership and take place on the East Mall. Limited seating is available. Limited parking is available in zoo lots so carpooling or public transportation are recommended. Use RTA PACE (www.rtachicago.com) bus routes 304 or 331 or Burlington Northern Santa Fe Metra trains (www.metrarail.com).

Please park in the zoo's main (North) parking lot.

Project Idea - Encyclopedia of Cousins

I know it's August and Christmas is still more than four months away, but...

This looks like a fun family project:

The Encyclopedia of Cousins
http://jas.familyfun.go.com/crafts?page=CraftDisplay&craftid=12074

I also thought it could easily be adapted as a family "Christmas Memories Book"...

With questions such as:

What is your favorite Christmas song?

Which is your favorite reindeer?

What treat do you leave for Santa to eat?

What is your favorite Christmas tradition?

Beacon Homeschool Group (formerly H.E.L.P.)

Beacon is now officially open for business. Formerly the H.E.L.P. group, we have changed the name to update our image and what we stand for. Our key verse is Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path.” A Beacon has always been known for showing the way to lost seaman as they navigate the seas. The Beacon Homeschool Support Group is also hoping to be there to provide a hope for those trying to navigate their way through the rough waters of home education and discipleship. In its basic essence, home education is more than academia. It’s discipleship. We are sharing with our children our values and philosophies that no one else can do better than us. It is our core beliefs that we pass on to our children by being with them 24/7. Luke 6:40 says “A student is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.” I’m grateful for what we’ve been able to accomplish so far.

Now back to Beacon. We have a new website (thanks to Danielle Dittmer, webmaster extraordinaire!!) and all your business can be done right through the simple click of your mouse through the website. If you’re not click saavy, don’t worry. At every meeting, we’ll have hard copies of all the things you’re missing on the web……like activities news, membership packet, field trip RSVP forms, etc. The new website is www.beaconhomeschool.org. It is still not complete so bookmark it and come back often.

For the month of August we are offering a really special deal too. We know educating our own children is a big expense, so we are offering membership for only $15 for the year during the month of August only. Click on the ‘Join’ tab and download the 2009-10 registration form. We’ve updated the form to make it easier to join too. Hurry and Mail it in before August 31. After that it goes back to $25.

Get ready for our kick-off picnic too! Friday, August 21 at 3:00pm at the Twin Lakes Park in Palatine, off of route 53 and Palatine Road. We’re bringing sub sandwiches and pizza! You bring side dishes and dessert to pass. Bring drinks for your own family and voila…. a picnic!! Have the kids bring their finest nautical attire! It will be a fun afternoon catching up with everyone. You can even sign up to join Beacon at the picnic too!! Please RSVP to aapburnham@yahoo.com with number of adults and children. Please type ‘picnic’ in the subject line.

Then join us for the first Beacon meeting – Tuesday, August 25 at 7:00-9:00pm. If you miss the picnic, you can sign up at that time too and take advantage of the new lending library. We’ve tossed the old and kept the most current books with topics that are of most interest. We’ll have a meet and greet meeting and introduce you to the new board and details about the new field trip procedures. Field trips can now be set up by anyone and it’s as easy as 1-2-3 ! No handling of money! Just set one up and we do the rest! You show up with a list of names in your hand and have fun!

For our October 27 meeting we have invited Todd Wilson, the Family Man to join us! This is a no miss event for everyone….especially dads! Make sure to let dad’s know and bring a guest and a guest’s dad! You are sure to love this evening. Todd has a way with humor that will bring the house down and he’ll send you off with a mission for your family! See in advance what Todd is all about at www.familymanweb.com

May God bless you and your family! If you have any questions, feel free to contact us via our new hotline. 224-356-3967.
